Ann Arbor Residents Advised To Date: 546
A great deal of the energy consumed in our buildings is wasted through weak points in building envelopes, inefficient equipment, and unnecessary operation of systems. To remedy this, we must change behaviors, improve insulation and air sealing, and install more efficient lighting, appliances, and heating and cooling systems. These changes will have a significant impact on the amount of energy our community uses.
The process of making our homes and buildings more efficient and reducing their carbon footprint is known as decarbonization. The Home Energy Advisor program is designed to support Ann Arbor residents on their journey to decarbonizing their homes.
All City of Ann Arbor residents (homeowners and renters) are eligible to participate and receive:
- An assessment of your home and two reports with recommendations. and/or
- A consultation call where you can simply ask related questions.
Testimonials from program participants
“We are so impressed with the visit, the report, and the follow up. It took what seemed to be an overwhelming challenge and broke it into a manageable and incremental plan.” – October 2025 Participant
“The entire program was really amazing. I have a much better sense of my house and what cost effective steps I can take to improve its efficiency and comfort. It was really reassuring to have someone who is not trying to sell us something come out and look over everything. I highly recommend the service.” – May 2025 Participant
“We have been thinking about energy efficiency and electrification projects as we plan for maintenance on our home, but it was often difficult to know where to start, what questions to be asking, or what to prioritize with limited resources. The HEA program was extremely helpful because it gave us a baseline for our home, and documents/information we can use into the future as we plan projects. It was great to have a third party be able to summarize information in one place, rather than having to figure it out and collect it ourselves from disparate sources. It feels like we now have a go-to resources to jumpstart our projects and plan for them accordingly.” – February 2025 Participant
“Together we can achieve a just transition to carbon neutrality, community-wide, by the year 2030.”
As we continue to pursue our work making Ann Arbor one of the best places to live, I am excited to introduce the opportunity to participate in the A2ZERO Home Energy Advisor (HEA) program. Our community’s stance on climate change is known and our response is proactive and wide-ranging. Achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 will necessitate that we all work together, and this program was created to support you as a steward of your home and community.Like many of our A2ZERO initiatives, the Home Energy Advisor makes sustainability accessible and actionable for you, the citizens of Ann Arbor. The Home Energy Advisor was designed to help optimize the homes and living spaces in our city, making them more affordable, comfortable, resilient, and ultimately minimizing their overall contributions to climate change. I thank you for being proactive in your efforts to make Ann Arbor a national leader in sustainable and healthy homes and buildings.
